Women in Games International today announced the detail to its next conference. Titled "She Got Game," it will detail current game industry trends in diversifying talent pool and how this will impact gaming in the future. The half-day seminar on Saturday, September 8 in Austin, Texas looks to be useful to developers of both genders.
"WIGI and its commitment to organizing these meaningful events is invaluable to the game community," said Izora de Lillard, Event Manager for Austin Game Developers Conference, "The impact of offering this level of information, community and expert information to an often overlooked sector of the industry has been profound. We're proud to be involved." Fiona Cherbak, Chair of WIGI's Strategic Alliances committee, adds "Co-locating this latest WIGI conference at the Austin Game Developers Conference creates a unique opportunity to supplement the overall experience of peers and professionals who attend the various games industry events in Austin this September. This promises to be the most abundant games-related event offering in Austin to date."
Dona C. Bailey is set to be the keynote speaker at "She Got Game." Currently a Professor at University of Arkansas, she was among few female game programmers in the '80s game industry, when she helped design and program Centipede. Her speech will focus on how women can cultivate and express ideas to help broaden the market. "I'm hoping to be helpful to someone now who may be in a situation similar to the one I was in at Atari," said Bailey, "I often wish there had been a group of WIGI colleagues back then from whom I could have gotten advice!"
Panels at the event will discuss both the past and present of women in the industry, including panels like as "Diversity Equals Dollars: Why having a diverse development team is good for your bottom line." Experts will also look at workplace diversity and environments and how that has changed over the past 20 years. Other panels will include "Her Virtual Life: Women and Online Games," talking about the growing market for women in MMO's, with roundtable discussions that will include topics such as "Making Good Industry Connections", "Attracting and Retaining Female Players in Virtual Worlds" and "Looking Good on Paper."
"She Got Game" will be located in the Austin Convention Center. Registration costs $55 for general attendees, $40 for WIGI members and $30 for students with I.D. Space is limited, so those interested are encouraged to register online today at www.womeningamesinternational.org.
