"There is a warning about a new video game that will soon hit store shelves," starts the local TV news report about Rockstar Games' upcoming Manhunt 2, delivered in a typically sermonizing TV anchor tenor, as a montage of disturbing images from the game plays in the background. "Players simulate various ways of murder from strangulation to stabbings with their controllers."

Video game watchdogs have called Rockstar Games' bloody Manhunt 2 (pictured above) a "murder training device." Click to see more images from the controversial game.
Every generation of popular culture needs a boogeyman, and like dime-store novels, comic books and horror films, video games are public enemy number-one for many parents, politicians and pundits. According to them, games desensitize children and turn them into unfeeling killing machines. Controversial anti-game attorney Jack Thompson has called violent games "murder simulators," and has attributed (often without evidence) many cases of school violence to gamers acting out what they see on screen.

woops they figured it out, Games to train for killing. The jig is up... Paranoid much?
Come on! If kids do things they saw in video games my generation would be running around dark rooms, eating pill, jumping on turtles and listening to repetitive music. It's just a GAME!! Hell. I think the more violent it is, the better it is for kids. They can vent their anger with the game and not do these things in reality. And besides, if the games do teach kids to be violent their parents should just not buy the game for them or let them play it.
jeez guys take it from a kid video games are just fun and most involve creative thinking but some are stupid violence (gta) but what reall causes school vilonce is problems at home (divorces) and such but also stress. its hard work at school and parents dont really know what there talkin about (yea we went through it too) not really now you need to work hard for honors and ap classes so u can get a scholarship that wasnt an issue for u adults.
Well I know that gamers everywhere are going to have a fit at my comment BUT...It is a fact that young children learn by playing games and this is why we have learning games for them to do so...unfortunately young children who are impressionable can and DO play these games. Eventually the parent will let their guard down or the child goes to a friends house and next thing you know they are blowing peoples heads off and getting propositioned by hookers in these games. Face it gamers..you know its true. Perhaps a game could come out thats not SO FAR over the line. I will say technology is a wonderful thing and these games are amazing to explore. Just to far over the line. TG of Decatur
Ok, I'm neither 15 nor am I an old 40+ year old, with no realistic clue as to what is happening with teenagers today. I'm a 32 year old, latino, father of two (15yr old boy & 8 yr old girl). I may be wrong but the truth (to me) is, no matter the age of the child, the responsibility of making that child realistically aware of the truth, rests SOLELY on the parent(s). I have a 15 year old son who would play on his ps3 or 360 for days if I were to allow that. He loves games so much that he will be going to a school to learn exatcly that; how to create games, after he's out of 8th grade. He plays all these games including Manhunt, that are gruesome. In fact he put me on to all the Resident Evil games and I play them without him sometimes! Now my son isn't a crazy, emotionally introverted, anti-social, gun hording teenager. He's a relatively normal individual who understands the difference between reality and fantasy. Now one of the reasons for this is that I volunteer, once a month, to an AIDS outreach program, where they offer support groups for teens with HIV, and he must join me, every time I go. Let em tell you, a teen that sees other teens in situations that are extremely similar and yet so different is a real wake up call! He cannot have his PS3, Xbox360, PSP etc. unless he earns them all, and this is just one way I do that. Long story short, he is WELL aware of fantasy and the reality of choices and consequences because he is is taught them every day, by a parent that cares, and is determined to assure this will haoppen instead of placing the responsibility on TV, school or game consoles!!! In the words of Bernie Mac, "We some *****azz parents, now..." And that's that on that!
Well said bg72523! For the video game lovers: How much time a day do you take to exercise and eat well and take care of your bodies instead of trying to beat a violent game? Have you bought games that are related to sports as well? Like the tennis and soccer ones? Go purify your minds and bodies, just because someone created such a stupid concept o*****ame, doesn't mean is good....like fast food: it is killing our children and you won't admit it???
I kill people in games so i don't kill people here. Please don't make me reconsider.
Sorry all you people *****ing and moaning about violence and sex and whatever the hell else you believe is bad in videogames, but I was just wondering if any of you have seen any movies lately. Movies are infinitely worse examples of all these "negative" things in society today. In movies there are real people killing, being killed, and having sex or talking about it whereas in videogames they are fake. I don't see how anyone can want to ban any kind of videogame until they start banning movies, which by the way would be unconstitutional ( check the bill of rights ). Anyways, just get over it people. Don't buy the game if you don't want to play it and don't let your children play it if you feel that it may be bad for them, but seriously in the end it's just a game.
HEY PRETTYBOYTOD, CONSERVATIVES ARE THE ONES WHO WANT THESE GAMES BANNED NUMBNUTS
There is one freedom that hasn't been spoken of in this article. Freedom of CHOICE. Games can be used in many different ways, illustrating football, war, racing, you name it. We need to realize that they illustrate this, its false and fiction in all meanings. So by saying that a person can choose, whether or not they want to play any games. IF they play a game and coin that game as the reason or plan to their crimes, then it isn't just the games fault, you would have to be sick(mentally, physically, and spiritually) to commit crimes and scapegoat to anything but yourself. I avvidly play video games, but i know right from wrong, my friends do, my family does. I know i am influenced by games, they create means to imagine, live in a different reality where your Patton Manning throwing those hail mary's, master cheif saving the human race, and the guy in manhunt doing w.e he is, in a sick twisted manner. Choose not to play it, not to BUY it, and you won't be influenced by it.
