BIZ: Have you seen previous fighting video game movies like Mortal Kombat and DOA and taken things you learned from them -- positive and negative -- and applied that to Street Fighter to attract both gamers and general audience?
PA: Yes and no. We did our research. We certainly did our time doing due diligence on what we subjectively thought would be appropriate in terms of lessons to apply and not apply to this film. But the most important part of any adaptation is telling a good story.
BIZ: As a Hollywood creator, what are some of the advantages of working with a video game as a stepping off point to bring a story to the big screen versus working on a comic book property?
PA: I think in their own light games, comics, and graphic novels are very well developed and refined for their audience. And film is a different animal. You simply have to improvise and adapt as much as you can to bring that game to a theatrical setting. There's a big difference between the medium for which these stories are displayed. Video games are typically played on a computer screen or TV set and comics and graphic novels are simply books. Movies have an 80-foot screen to work with.
BIZ: How do you adapt a game like Street Fighter for this film format?
PA: You're basically mining the gold from the game or the comic and trying to make the most of it in a theatrical setting. You're going to come full circle adapting a game or a comic or a graphic novel, all of which are properties that have been very well developed. These aren't things that are prematurely released into the market place. Video games cost millions and millions to develop and get right before they're put out there for gamers. So when adapting one for film, you have a real leg up to translate as much of those elements -- story elements, character elements, action elements -- and add that to the big screen.
BIZ: Thanks for your time.

It'll go a different road from the original plot? Ryu and Ken will be absent? And A non-Chinese actor will act as a Chinese character? It'll most likely flop.
No Way, Lucy Liu would suck (too old), as much as this movie is gonna suck..... There's no point in a Street Fighter movie without Ryu, Ken, or Guile..... This movie is gonna tank, but unfortunately, being the street fighter gamer that I am, I have to see it.....
Da Best Actress For Chun Li Is .... Lucy Lui, Hav anyone thought of dat? Kristen Kruek Isnt even chinese or asian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All i'm gonna say is that as much as i LOVE the Street Fighter franchise i guess movie studios have learned nothing from the dreadful first movie and how much that sucked. I think kristen kreuk is a good actress but only on smallville. she hardly has the right stuff to play a popular character like chun-li. if they were gonna cast someone to play the character in a live action movie i would've gotten and asian actress for the part. Or better yet i prefer an animated flick featuring chun-li.
