We recently posted a story based on a GameTrailers interview in which God of War creator David Jaffe states that if he could change something about the PS3, he would have taken out the Blu-ray drive and sold the console for less.

This kind of thinking essentially goes against everything that Sony has said about the PS3 and the importance of its Blu-ray functionality. This kind of "bite the hand that feeds" mentality was quite frankly shocking to us and a number of industry observers, but apparently Sony is not irked by Jaffe's statement – at least not publicly.

"David Jaffe is an industry pioneer who has earned the right to speak his mind on anything he wants when it comes to videogames," Dave Karraker Sr. Director, Corporate Communications at Sony Computer Entertainment America told GameDaily BIZ. "While we respect his opinion, we feel strongly that the future of gaming lies in the ability to deliver more to the consumer -- more gameplay options, more lifelike graphics, more dynamic sound -- all in high definition. To do that, you need a storage vehicle such as the 50 GB Blu-ray disc, because your standard 9 GB DVD simply can't handle the demands of true next-generation gaming."

So there you have it. It should be noted that we won't have the full breadth or context of Jaffe's comments on Blu-ray until GameTrailers releases the third part of its Bonus Round but the man has certainly done a lot for Sony. The God of War franchise has given Sony a real shot in the arm. Considering all the negativity around Sony and the PS3, can you imagine where they'd be without God of War I and II right now? That franchise alone will help sell tons of PS3 hardware once the third game makes its appearance.
