Ready for another Pokemon game? Pokemon Platinum has just hit stores, but rumors suggest another Pokemon game is already on the way. Japanese variety show Pokemon Sunday teased a major announcement for the upcoming week, which Pokemon news site PokeBeach suggested would be the re-release of 2000's Pokemon Gold and Silver. The games originally debuted on the Game Boy, meaning they have not been compatible with Nintendo's line of handheld consoles since the release of the original DS.

If the speculation is true, this wouldn't be the first time Pokemon games have been updated -- the two original Pokemon games, Red and Blue, were remade for the Game Boy Advance in 2004 as Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green, respectively. While the central storyline and gameplay remained the same, Fire Red and Leaf Green added usability through a new "Help" feature as well as new Pokemon that debuted after the original 151.

A spokesperson for Nintendo declined to comment on the rumor, though we expect that if Pokemon Sunday does reveal new games, we'll hear about it next week.

Frankly, the biggest surprise isn't that Nintendo could be re-releasing two highly successful games for the DS generation of handhelds, but rather that there's been a Pokemon variety show and we hadn't heard about it until today. Can a kids' network bring this to their Saturday morning lineup, please?
