Will science stop flip-flopping? Just this morning we reported that video gaming might deform your fingers, but now there's a new report saying that they might improve your eyesight. Researchers at the University of Rochester studied the effects of video game playing on a group of young adults, and found that their ability to perceive contrast (which is important, for example, in low-light environments) had improved on the whole.

Here's the kicker -- games with violence are even better for your eyes than more sedate titles. Tests on the gamers showed that those who played action-heavy games such as Unreal Tournament showed 43% improvement; in contrast, those who played less intense games such as The Sims showed 11% improvement.

The researchers concluded that gaming could be used in the future for treating people with amblyopia (a condition where the brain isn't receiving visual images properly). What we hear is: play more Gears of War 2.
