Microsoft announced today that it's released its first update for playing original Xbox games on the 360 since it did so last December when games like Psychonauts, Soul Calibur 2 and Shenmue II were added to the list. In this latest update a number of hardcore favorites have been added, including Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Mercenaries and Full Spectrum Warrior among others.

Major Nelson points out that this latest update brings the total number of backward compatible titles to over 300 (full list available here). He also reminds everyone that original Xbox games will "look better than ever" thanks to the 360's upconverting them to run in 720p/1080i with anti-aliasing.

Popping any of the compatible Xbox titles into the 360 will automatically prompt the user to download the patch. Alternatively, the compatibility patches can be acquired from the download center here and then burnt onto a CD/DVD, which can be used to update the 360.
