Week 4, the start of a jam-packed holiday gaming season.
Spore kicks off the holiday gaming season (read: that time of year when your wallet cries) with its launch this weekend. Soon to follow: Rock Band 2, the Force Unleashed, Fallout 3, and many others. This week, our HUDfaces talk about their most anticipated fall titles, the rumors of Halo/Metal Gear sequelitis, and gamer's rights. - Robin

(1) What are you playing this week?

I'm still making my way through The Last Guy--I just evacuated La Brea, Los Angeles, but Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. looks like it's going to be tough. Also working on Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty.

"Spore." Lots and lots of "Spore." Current ranking of the modes, from my favorite to least liked: Space, Creature, Cell, Civilization, Tribe.

Spent a long, four-day weekend camping in the middle of the wilderness, so I took the opportunity to invest some more time into Level 5's devilishly addictive Professor Layton & The Curious Village. I'm getting there, only 30-odd puzzles left to wrack my brain on. Back home, I've been working my way through Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Castle Crashers – still frustrated by the latter's less-than-perfect co-op implementation. Might hold off until that promised patch arrives.

Another two-fer this week between Mercenaries 2 and Spore. I'm enjoying Mercenaries 2, although I wish the AI would pose more of a challenge instead of being bionafied moving targets that have horrific aim. Spore is really fun and I've been playing it in bits and pieces because it's one of those games I know I'll turn down going out on a Friday night to play. Yes! It's that addictive!

I've been playing a lot of Mercenaries 2, as well as Super Mario RPG. Mercenaries is fun, but nothing fantastic. I can't deny that blowing up almost everything in sight is a quick way to put a smile on my face. When I'm feeling a bit more productive, I sneak back over to Super Mario RPG. I haven't played this since it originally released in North America, so playing once again is like a brand-new experience!

Still cranking on Star Wars: Force Unleashed and during long conference calls playing Pet Society on Facebook. Want to be my friend?

So far this has been a tough gaming week for me, as I've been recovering from what I'm lovingly referring to as "Nerd Cooties" that I caught while at PAX this last weekend. Lots of sniffling, sneezing, and coughing, and not an achievement to be had from any of it. Outside of that, I've been enjoying the simplicity of The Last Guy on the PlayStation Network. The concept and presentation is pure arcade, from the gameplay to the sound effects. Such an original, interesting title, and one that's definitely indicative of Sony's PSN line-up as a whole. As of late, color me impressed.

Having just returned from PAX, where I played a little of everything it was tough to come down from the excitement. It's a good thing blowing stuff up is equally as exciting, so now it's on to Mercenaries 2 co-op! There's nothing better than getting in a jeep with a buddy, placing C4 on the hood, driving towards a gas tank and bailing out and blowing up everything in a glorious red and white smoke filled blaze. Yes, that's still co-op.

I'm playing "Track my 360 on the way to the repair centre" It's intruging. So far, I've made it to the repair centre in Germany.

But, seriously, without my 360 I haven't been playing much. Plus with me back in the daily routine after a whole summer of doing nothing I won't have time anyway. I mentioned last week about playing Castle Crashers...I didn't get to because my 360 broke the day it came out.

Now that PAX is over it's time to get back to my regular routine of Madden 09 and what perfect timing since the regular season is about to begin. As for new additions to the rotation, The Last Guy (PSN) is addictive and fun and Castle Crashers (XBLA) is superb. Also, looking forward to cracking open my copy of Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise.
