Week 6, at the altar of the rock gods
The GameDaily office has been abuzz (and a-rockin') with Rock Band 2 - and it seems it's been that way for most of the gamer-verse as well -- the 360 parts anyway. This week, our HUDers reveal their most wanted Rock Band/Guitar Hero songs, muse on the breakup situation over at EA and T2 (we hear EA's asked for its mixtapes and t-shirts back... awkward!), and do a little career reflection. Our special guest this week is Mr. Evan Narcisse of Crispy Gamer (and like, a million other things). He suggests an, um... interesting musical preference. Also, Totilo might get fired. You'll see. - Robin Yang, HUD Herder
(1) What are you playing this week?
This week I'm finally busying myself with Beyond Good & Evil – a game famous for being critically praised but never finding an audience ... and yes, I appreciate the fact that I'm indeed "part of the problem." Unfortunately, the Xbox version – considered to be the best graphically – does not work on the 360 so, unable to find my Xbox AV cables or controller, I purchased another PlayStation 2 copy. Lucky for me, I have an increasingly rare backwards-compatible PS3. Finally, able to play the game, I regret not having played it sooner. Just four hours in, and it's already one of the best games I've played in years. Why didn't ANYONE tell me?
This week, diving into Tomb Raider Underworld and Mirror's Edge. Oh, and Rock Band 2.
I'm still getting my ass handed to me on Floor 46 in the Tower of Lost Souls mode in Soul Calibur IV. My custom characters–Soul Brother, Soul Sister and Soul Bruiser–just ain't cutting it. I'm also working on Lego Batman, Dead Space and Mirror's Edge for my reviews.
I am a bit ashamed to say that I picked up The Price is Right for Wii. I am a huge fan of the show...so I couldn't resist! I've also been going at Drawn to Life: Spongebob Squarepants, Unsolved Crimes, Populous DS, The Force Unleashed on 360/Wii, and and tiny bit of Rock Band 2.
I've been playing many games, but the one I must rave about is the unheralded Air Traffic Chaos from Majesco on the DS. You are an air traffic controller! Far less dull than it sounds. It's like juggling in slow-motion, except instead of balls or bowling pins you're juggling jumbo jets full of impatient passengers. Collisions are bad, but the game is quite good.
My 360 came back last week, so I've been loving that little beast most of the week. Pretty much in love with Castle Crashers and Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (I'm a sucker for cutely name pinatas) Having to review Infinite Undiscovery which is an arduous task. Also dug out my SNES and decided to play Chrono Trigger since I never got around to it. Also, Rhythm Tengoku Gold on my DS...still. Because it is absolutely amazing.
This week NHL 09 is taking over my life. Be A Pro mode is probably the best edition to the series since its Control-Stick system. I've also been playing the attempt to download the Warhammer Online client but FilePlanet isn't agreeing. I suppose you have to pay for optimal download speeds and a solid related blog. Oh wait, you don't! It's called BigDownload.com. Believe.
SOCOM: Confrontation Beta (PS3), Rock Band 2 (360) and Bejeweled (iPhone).
I'm supposed to have time to play games? Honestly, I haven't had that much, outside of getting some hands-on time to preview stuff. And despite popular belief, spending 30 minutes to an hour with a game for a preview isn't really "playing it" as much as it is sampling it to write a bunch of words that will relay that experience. There's something really unique about being in your living room and hunkering down to spend one-on-one time with a game of your choice; it's a feeling that can't be captured in a lounge, an office, or an event hall.
Maybe this weekend I'll be able to "play" some games, and it will most likely be Rock Band 2 with friends. Anyone else have any other suggestions?
My gaming has been pretty sporadic this week as there's quite a bit going on. I hit level 50 in Too Human, I just about wrapped up Marvel Ultimate Alliance and I've played a few games of Madden 09. Other than that I've been checking out the latest preview build of Sacred 2 on the PC, the game is absolutely gorgeous! Finally I'm power sliding across the living room playing some Rock Band 2 and my favorite song in it - Drain You by Nirvana!
I barely played anything this week. I was in Austin for the AGDC, and I have to say it was a very interesting show. Not the kind of shows I'm used to, but altogether it was a great experience. I did get to purchase Rock Band 2 on Friday morning, and I have to say that I'm enjoying it very much. I can't wait to rock out this weekend!

@ darkfist09 thanks for the comment! you know what, when someone comes up with 10-way synchronous skype recording and manages to schedule these ten --very-- busy people to log on at the same time once a week, we'll do a podcast ;)
Oddly enough, I really enjoyed reading this; it drew me in and I felt the need to read it through to the end, unlike so many other things. I guess I'm just interested in what each individual has to say. If these guys were to do a podcast, I would most definitely tune in.
