Week 3, in which we frantically assemble a HUD even though we're at PAX.
Somehow, even with half of our panelists getting ready for this weekend's Penny Arcade Expo, we managed to churn out a HUD -- call it dedication (or really effective nagging on our part). This week, they talk about rocking the vote with Xbox Live, recount their best summer gaming memories and tell us which delayed/scrapped/missing game they have an unrequited love for. OPA! And don't forget to send us questions for next week. - Robin
(1) What are you playing this week?
I'm playing the traveling game by adventuring from Toronto to Seattle for PAX 08. There are a few titles I'm looking forward to playing but until then I'll stick with Tap Tap on the iPhone.
This week I recieved Too Human to review. I don't really want to talk about that since it wasn't a pleasant experience. On the other hand, I bought Braid and Geometry Wars 2 and they are now two of my most played games this month. Braid is just so damn beautiful and Geometry Wars 2 is addictive as hell. Also, by the time this comes out I should have some MS Points and will be playing Castle Crashers and loving it.
Despite all the negative reviews, I've been having a total blast in Too Human. Sure the game has some flaws, but the bottom line is it's a ton of fun to play. After hacking my way through the single player mode, it's all about co-op as I try to acquire epic armor sets and level my character up to the cap of 50.
I'm playing the "Prepare for the Penny Arcade Expo" game, which is mainly me organizing a loose schedule of things to do while in Seattle for PAX this week. If I were the self-promotion type, I'd say come check out the "How to Make the World Notice Your Gaming Blog" panel on Saturday at 4pm. But I'm not, so I wouldn't dare.
If we're talking only video games (and I do believe we are) then I finished the short-but-sweet Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty. Sony's digital download line-up is impressive indeed. Also, from here on out, assume I'm playing Rock Band 2 every week until Rock Band 3 comes out.
This weekend I will be spending lots of time with my new virtual boyfriend, Starkiller, while playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on 360.
I've been tooling around with Helix on WiiWare. I was looking forward to the game for a while, since I'm a big fan of music titles. I'm really surprised at how high quality the game is. It recognizes motions better than most retail games do. I am also playing Too Human. I was ready for disappointment after reading reviews, but I am actually really enjoying it. It definitely has its bugs, but nothing to prevent me from having fun. Finally, I still have MGS4 waiting for more love, as well. I have to get back to that!
This week has been all about Too Human. Although the game isn't completely void of any bugs or annoyances, it's a game that I can't help but want to play on a regular basis. If Silicon Knights can bring a Diablo-like experience to consoles with Too Human, then I don't see why Blizzard can't do the same thing with the Diablo series.
As has been customary this entire month of August, I've moved on to the latest Xbox Live Arcade release: Castle Crashers! While thoroughly enjoying the experience, I'm a bit disappointed in the online component. While it's sorely missing drop-in multiplayer, the drop-out part worked a little too well – I've had trouble keeping co-op games going. Also started up The Force Unleashed, though it's a little too early to make any overt statements. Let's say this: the tech on display is most impressive.
I'm playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Dead Space a Red Bull breakdancing game on the DS, an SAT teaching game also on the DS, and -- the surprise joy of the week -- Order Up! on the Wii. I'm also a Level 29 Human Bioengineer in Too Human, which makes me... "For"?
I played a bit of LittleBigPlanet's story mode. Can't say much about it other than that Stephen Fry is terrific as the narrator. I'm also playing The Last Guy, which I'm enjoying greatly.
