Week 7, Hopefully We're Still Here Next Week
Money's on everyone's mind this week, and even though the video game industry has been called "recession-proof," we're still crossing our fingers that GameDaily doesn't become GameFail-y. OH SNAP. This week, is LucasArts just milking the Star Wars franchise for all it's worth? Do gamers or publishers have to pay when DRM snafus (Spore, anyone?) happen? Can you trust reviewers with your hard-earned money? We have the ruthless Russ Frushtick as our special guest, joining us from UGO to weigh in on these important questions. Happy Friday! - Robin Yang, HUD Reaper
(1) What are you playing this week?
This week I've been kicking around Venezuela in Mercenaries 2. The game has its share of issues but it reminds me of an old 80's action flick - who cares if the plot stinks when stuff goes "boom" so often! Other than that I've been fighting on the side of Destruction in Warhammer Online. Considering I've never been down with MMOs, it's a helluva ride so far.
Once again, it's been another week or playing games in short bursts, and never in front of my own television. Le sigh ... But I have to admit that I was pretty active this week, spending a good amount of time with Saint's Row 2's multiplayer modes; how much fun you can have by using a wheelchair to break out of a maximum security prison can't be underestimated. Insomniac was nice enough to let a few of us get our hands on Resistance 2 a bit early, and it's -- not surprisingly -- looking and feeling extraordinarily polished. Then, of course, there's the LittleBigPlanet beta code I haven't redeemed yet ...
Having finished Mercenaries 2 over the weekend, I'm definitely in the midst of a lull. This week there have been a few gaming-related events where I was able to get in time with Resistance 2, LEGO Batman and Rock Band 2, but in terms of gaming at home, it's sorta slow going. Both Lock's Quest and Brothers in Arms are sitting on my desk, waiting to be torn into, but I haven't found the urge just yet. Maybe I'm just resting up for the inevitable crush of games coming out in October (Fallout 3, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Far Cry 2, Dead Space and LittleBigPlanet are all must-plays for me).
The rockin' continues this week, although I've had very little time for gaming since I've been kind of busy with my work. But when I did find some time, I was playing Rock Band 2.
I'm playing a DS game I can't talk about (sorry!) and more "Air Traffic Chaos" DS (you're welcome!).
I've been addicted to NHL09's "Be a Pro" mode. If you don't know what it is, it's creating a player to work him up from the minors to the pros. The trick though? You ONLY control that player. So you need to make shift changes and ride the pine to catch your breath, or if you get a penalty you'll be sitting in the box and watching. At first I thought it was going to be pretty dully, I figured I'd be watching more than playing. But really? It's exciting and fresh. Well done EA. I also just started the XBLA Duke Nukem 3d - I forgot how hard it is!
I'm just playing the same as last week. More Rock Band, Viva Pinata and Castle Crashers. And I've bee ncrawling up the Geo Wars 2 leaderboards.
Very little. Stabbed at my DS on the subway while playing the new Kirby game.
Rock Band 2 and LittleBigPlanet.
There is almost too much to play. I have been going at Kirby Super Star Ultra, Wario Land: Shake It!, Mega Man 9, and Super Dodge Ball. I still have Lego Batman, de Blob, and Samba de Amigo waiting to be opened. We are only at the lead-in to the holiday season, and I'm already overwhelmed with games I want to play!
Trying to maintain some focus on rapping up Beyond Good & Evil (it just keeps getting better!) but when I boot up the PS3, the allure of the LittleBigPlanet beta is often impossible to resist. If I manage to drag myself to the 360, I've got a serious hankering to spend some time with Pure.
