We've seen video game fans show their appreciation through tattoos, costumes and gigantic flame wars on various websites (don't act all innocent - it's happened here, too!) but never before have we seen... well, see for yourself.

BME user Metal_Games used a body modification technique called scarification (scarring the surface of the skin to created a pattern or image) to etch an NES controller into his leg.
"Starting with the lines, the pain wasn't half as bad as I'd expected," he wrote on his blog. "In fact, it was a breeze for the most part. It took Jeffrey, the artist, about 20 minutes to cut all the lines. A couple of deep breaths, and we went straight on to removing the skin."
Removing the skin? We're queasy just thinking about it. Props to Metal_Games for having the guts to get this done, though -- he's a bigger Nintendo fan than we'd ever hope to be.

Video Game Tattoos!
That's the Bob-Omb
"I got my bob-omb tattoos because I grew up playing Super Mario bros. Super Mario 2 was my favorite for a very long time, and bob-omb first appeared in that one.
Originally I was going to cover my head in Mario 2 villains, but I decided instead to just stick with the matching ones on either side and keep it simple.

Portal: Cake, Lie, Cube, Love
"When I played Portal and encountered the [companion cube] I saw something iconic and instantly recognizable to anyone who is a Valve fan. The cake is for balance (plus I like to make cakes!). I work in the video game industry so I figured it was a perfect fit. Plus it doesn't hurt that the game is incredibly innovative."

Zelda Tattoo
"I actually have two different Zelda tattoos but this is the only one I have photos of. It is when my leg was still healing though so sorry about that. I got this done by Aza Leroy who is a tattoo artist from Edmonton, Alberta. I met him at a tattoo art show I organized last February. He saw my "ocarina of time" half sleeve and instantly fell in love with the idea of doing as much Zelda work on me as possible. This leg piece will turn into a full sleeve from front to back and my arm will also be a full sleeve when we are done. As for the original piece on my arm, that was done to commemorate good times with my siblings in the summers we spent together, since we lived in different cities. Its also an amazing game."
