Last month, LucasArts announced that their 1990 adventure game, The Secret of Monkey Island, would be remade into a downloadable title for the Xbox Live Arcade and the PC featuring revamped graphics and music (as well as added vocal talent). The special edition is due out this summer, but LucasArts' decision to remake the memorable first game in the Monkey Island series begged a question: will we see more classic titles from LucasArts' old catalogue getting remakes for a new generation of gamers and consoles? 1998's fan favorite Grim Fandango stands out as a prime candidate -- the film noir-esque adventure game has never seen a re-release despite finding praise across both critic and consumer audiences upon launch.

Will Manny make a comeback?

A recent interview with LucasArts' community manager Brooks Brown gives us hope for Manny Calavera's return, suggesting that if the Monkey Island re-release is a success, we may see more games from the beloved point-and-click catalogue get remade.

"If this sells, there's no one at this company who doesn't want to do these games," says Brooks. "It's a matter of showing that there's interest and this market is alive and get people as excited as possible about Monkey Island Special Edition to show that these things can make it."

Looks like it's time to vote with your wallets, gamers. It's too early to see how well the enhanced remake of Monkey Island will do, given the decline of strictly adventure games in recent years, but if the game does well, you can bet we'll be the first people knocking down LucasArts' door for more.
