Fall down, make things go boom
Video games and explosions go together like kittens and yarn. We love emptying rocket launchers, hitting explosive barrels and launching nukes to destroy bad guys, monsters and even whole cities; we even enjoy watching. These 25 games, however, give us more bang for our buck.
25. Stuntman: Ignition (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2)

Lights, camera, action! Stuntman: Ignition tests your driving skills as you dodge debris, make insane jumps and avoid explosions to please filmmakers. This includes a harrowing scene where you'll navigate your way around an angry volcano spitting up lava and fireballs.
24. Resident Evil (PSOne, GameCube, Wii)

Capcom's Resident Evil concludes with a grand explosion, triggered by the always horrifying self-destruct sequence. After killing the Tyrant, members of S.T.A.R.S. barely escape the zombie filled mansion before it bursts into flames.
23. Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox)

Master Chief won't settle for your average explosion. Instead of just nuking the first ring world from orbit (amateur punk stuff), he blows up the Pillar of Autumn's fusion reactors, thereby decimating aliens great and small. Oh, and he barely escapes the blast.
22. Splosion Man (Xbox 360)

A bunch of zany scientists created a test subject with the ability to explode on command. After he escapes, all hell breaks loose as the volatile guinea pig uses his powers to bust through glass, sail through the air and turn those lab coat wearing bozos into piles of meat.
21. Bangai-O Spirits (DS)

Just about everything in Bangai-O Spirits (and its predecessor) explodes. Half the time, we can't even tell what's happening amidst the bombs, lasers and enemies crowding the tiny DS screen. That's coincidentally just the way we like it.
20. Blast Corps (N64)

With Blast Corps, you must clear a path for a vehicle carrying nuclear weapons. That means destroying whatever gets in the way, including warehouses, skyscrapers and other structures. There are a plethora of vehicles to choose from, including a bulldozer, a dump truck and even a robot. The better to smash things with, we say.
19. Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox, PS2)

Burnout 3 actually rewards you for causing as much damage as possible, thanks to the game's Crash Mode. In it, you intentionally drive into oncoming traffic to score tons of cash. Sweet looking explosions ensue.
18. Gears of War (Xbox 360)

The COG struck a powerful blow to the Locust Empire with the Lightmass Bomb, a cluster of missiles that vaporized hordes of ugly critters. It didn't end the war, but it did deliver an impressive light show. Of course, killing monsters with grenades and the always fun Boomshot rocket launcher were good too.
17. Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360)

In a last ditch effort to slow the Locusts, the COG blow up a lambent Brumak and sink the city of Jacinto. A cool light show ensues, as explosions sink the once proud beacon of hope. Achievement... unlocked.
16. Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360, PS3)

While enjoying a pleasant boat ride in Capcom's Resident Evil 5, Chris Redfield makes excellent use of the large red containers overhead, nailing them with a well-placed bullet and watching the fireworks. The big orange and red explosions not only take up the entire screen, but also vaporize those rascally Majini.
15. GoldenEye (N64)

Rare's exquisite GoldenEye video game may never appear on Xbox Live, but at least we have happy memories of slaughtering fools in multiplayer, and few weapons make us smile like the proximity mine. We'd throw them onto the walls, wait for enemies to pass by and BOOM!
